Packet 8 Review: Marge

01/20/11

Pros:

It's about $5 per month cheaper per phone than my old voip provider comvoice. This would be great if the people on the other end of the phone could understand me

Cons:

Poor call quality, dropped calls, echo, fasttalk, feedback, static, deer in the headlights Customer Support. Seriously they act like I'm the first customer ever to call in and say I'm having issues and their only solution is to reboot my modem!!!!

Other Thoughts:

I signed up for their 12 month promo and paid in full...now I'm stuck with crappy phone call quality -- don't leave your trusted provider for these guys. I'm 100% certain I'm going back to my old provider the moment my service contract with 8x8 is up. I've used both Packet8 phones and Cisco phones with my old provider and even though the sales rep assured me that ALL IP PHONES ARE THE SAME...they are not. These phones seem cheap, the speakerphone on my cell phone is better than these, but that is not saying much. My AT&T iPhone has better sound quality when I'm in the subway than 8x8. I'd never recommend these guys and if I could afford to I'd toss their crappy phones in the river right now!!!

Packet 8 Review: Bbavousett@houston.rr.com

11/08/10

Pros:

Easy to customize the user interfaces.

Cons:

Constant breaking up. Cut off in mid conversation on a daily basis. Poor support.

Other Thoughts:

I informed them that I wanted to cancel service months ago. After changing banks I received a bill from Packet 8. I responded that service had been canceled. No more bills were received but I just received a letter from a collection agency.

Packet 8 Review: Prometa

09/16/10

Pros:

Price , even though getting ridiculously pricey, is cheaper than those of the Big companies.
Lots of free features included in the service.

Cons:

Service is deteriorating rapidly – Drop calls, more and more friends and family members complaining about getting a “phone not in service” message when they call me (even when I am on the phone talking to someone else !!!).
About once every other week the phone just dies ! To be fair to Packet8, this could be caused by my ISP – hard to tell. Have to reboot Modem/Router/Voip gizmo.

Other Thoughts:

Back to price$ !!! I’ve just renewed my year subscription, $240.00/year premium. My credit card was charged about $260.00 !!!??
But, wait ! That’s not all! Every month I am charged between $5.00 and $7.00 in fees.
No. This is not a typo. Each month I am charge a different fee (telecomm tax/ universal/ 911 etc plus their own high extra fees).
Bottom line – I would not recommend this company to any body and whats more I will not
renew my subscription again.

Packet 8 Review: Tim

03/04/10

Pros:

I was able to keep my phone number when I moved area codes. The phones had a ton of features, most of which I didn't use.

Cons:

Price. I was told I'd pay one price and the bill has always been higher. I have horrible service from customer service and I constantly drop calls. On top of that when I call people the fourth ring sounds all weird and they can't fix it.

Other Thoughts:

I am glad to be done with Packet8. I recently got a flier from a local company in Phoenix called comvoice (sp?). They just installed Cisco phones on my desks and i got my first bill...it was actually less than they said AND less than my Packet8 bill. On top of that my service issues are GONE! Packet8 always blamed my ISP but the new company says my internet is just fine it was the old technology Packet8 used that caused my problems. If anyone else wants to check these guys out do so...I'm happy so far. www.comvoice.com

02/14/10

Pros:

Quality of calls and features are good

Cons:

Hidden fees, cannot give me an understandable invoice. Keep adding charges to my credit card that they cannot explain. Increased prices from $39 to $44, when everyone else was decreasing prices (then offer lower price when threaten to quit)

Other Thoughts:

I'm looking for an alternative.

Packet 8 Review: Donny Hurwitz

07/02/09

Pros:

The only pro I can give you is that Rudy in tech support is available and would love to be able to help, although many times he cannot and if forced to give the company line.

Cons:

Packet 8 is my worst nightmare. If phones are a critical part of your business, avoid them at all costs.

Other Thoughts:

Packet 8 is possibly the worst vendor relationship I have had in the 35+ years I have been running companies. If you want your intelligence insulted, your other vendors blamed when they are not at fault, and your customers and clients mad at you because you cannot hear them, or you drop their call, Packet 8 is the one for you. If not... Orange juice cans and a string are a better solution.

03/31/09

Pros:

My experience with packet 8 was good at first continued to degrade to the point of being completely unacceptable. I'd avoid this company at all costs!

Cons:

The poor sound quality was only one of the main problems I encountered with packet 8, On a number of times friends left me Voice Mails which I never received. this happened all the time

Packet 8 Review: Willie Desimone

01/15/09

Pros:

nothing - everything they tell you is lies

Cons:

Liars. Divide by 10 when considering their offers. International pricing has catches inside - do not believe. When you offered a discount - don't believe too. Bills they sent to you does not match what they charge. For two months of service I got two bills - $0 (I had a free month offer) and $22.58. But they charged my card for $44.27 and $22.98. Why? I do not know. And I don't want to know anymore. I spent one hour talking with their reinforced-concrete customer support - it would cost too much to get through! I'm simply leaving after two months. The worst experience I ever had with any company in the US.

Packet 8 Review: Melissa Bergeron

03/09/08

Pros:

None listed.

Cons:

Warning for anyone considering Packet8: My first experience with VOIP was with SunRocket and it was great. It was feature rich and the price was exactly as they said it was, $199.00 per year and no HIDDEN charges. More about the hidden charges later. Unfortunately SunRocket went out of business. In the process of discontinuing service SR made several recommendations relative to other VOIP providers, Packet8 being one of them. Their price seemed reasonable albeit higher than SR though they didn’t have the robust features of SR. I went ahead and ordered their service. About a week later I received my equipment, which I installed with ease (most VOIP shouldn’t be any more complicated than installing an additional telephone on an existing line). From the get-go the sound quality was terrible, something I never experienced with SR or my current VOIP system. I called customer service, which I found to be a nightmare to work with. They hardly can say the word English let alone speak it. According to them all my problems were the fault of my ISP (Internet Service Provider), which happens to be, Verizon’s FIOS (Fiber Optic Service/System) and it is excellent. The sound quality issues were, listening to myself (echo), jitter, clipping and poor fidelity. These problems were evident on at least 30% of my calls except for fidelity problems, which were on 100% of the calls. Another problem was calls not going through when dialed requiring a redial. Dropped packets, jitter, echo and poor fidelity are features P8 provides as part of their lousy service. I finally corrected the lousy service by switching to T-Mobile’s Talk Forever From Home. This happens to be the best of the three VOIP systems I have had, though it is not as feature rich as SunRocket was but it’s only $10.00 per month. About the P8 HIDDEN charges: Once I was on with P8 I noticed three additional monthly charges from P8 each and every month on my credit card statement. I called about these fees and found that they were charging all kinds of “taxes and fees”, some of which were “per minute” that were never disclosed in the original agreement. Needless to say my phone bill more than doubled. Just before I dumped P8 I received an Email from them informing me that they were going to levy additional sales taxes, which would have tripled my phone bill. Finally I had enough of the lousy service and deceptive charges so I started looking around and found the T- Mobile VOIP plan. Their plan requires that you have a qualifying ($39.99 / month minimum) cell phone plan. I went to the local T-Mobile store after having reviewed their Web Site. I switched my cell service and VOIP to their system. There was no waiting for the equipment as they gave me everything I needed on the spot. Took it home, plugged it in and the system worked. The call quality is the best VOIP I have had and is on par with the Verizon FIOS phone service, which happens to be excellent. T-Mobile handled switching my phone numbers to their system; I didn’t have to do anything. P8 took their good old time releasing my number to T-Mobile; it took about two weeks before they released it. My cell number was switched within two HOURS. The long and short of it is be careful of which provider you sign with. One of the things that makes T-Mobile’s VOIP so good is their router gives voice packets priority over data, which eliminates lost/dropped packets, jitter and echo.
